How to add projects and control their order

1. Begin by logging into the Manager area of the website (if you do not know how to login to the Manager area, please see the tutorial entitled “General Overview”).

2. There are 2 “areas” where you can add New Projects: Current Projects and Past Projects.  In this example, we’ll show how to add a project to the “Current Projects” section (the same method applies to the “Past Projects” section as well).

3. Right click “Current Projects” and from the pop up box choose “Create Document Here”.

4. Immediately a blank document will be loaded.  Fill in the following values for this new document:
  • Title: Put the name of this project here.  The name that you enter in this field will show in the tree diagram on the left in the Manager area under “Current Projects”.  The name that you enter in the “Title” field will help in the future when you’re trying to locate this particular document.
  • Long title: Put the name of this project here.  The name can be the same as the name in the “Title” field.  The name you put here will appear on the website itself.  Again, it can be the same name you put in the Title field or different if you want a different project name to appear on the website.
  • Document Content: The text you type here will show up on the front of the website above the photos for this project.
  • Slidshow Image 1, 2, 3, etc.  Put the images you want for your project here.  To understand how to upload and insert images, view the tutorials for “How to Upload Images” and “How to Insert Images on Pages”
5. Scroll back to the top of the document and click on the “Page Settings” tab.  This tab is to the right of the “General” tab and below the title “Document Setting”.  After clicking on “Page Settings”, 4th down appears the phrase “Published?”.  Click the check box next to “Published”.  By default new documents are not set to Published unless you first specify this.

6. Now simply save the document by looking at the top of the page where you will see to the right of “Create/edit document” 2 rows of choices.  On the first row you will see “Save”, “Delete” and “Cancel”.  On the second row, you will see “After saving: Add Another, Continue Editing, Close”  Simply choose “Continue Editing” and then click “Save”.  If you have another browser or tab open, you can go to the page where the change occurred (in this case the “Contact Us” page) and you’ll be able to see where the change was made (in this case a new project being added under the Current Projects section).

7. If you do not see any changes on the page you just modified, simply refresh that page and the change should show up.

8. How to sort the ordering of the Projects.  The projects are sorted by the date in which they were added.  So for example if you added Project A yesterday and then today you added a new Project, Project B, since Project B is the most recent addition to the Project section, Project B will be first in the list of projects with Project A being second.
  • To manually sort the order of the projects, simply click on the Page Settings tab at the top of the document (see step 5) you wish to edit.  There you will see “Publish Date”.
  • To the right of the “Publish date” is an empty field and to the right of that is a small calendar icon with the number “15” on it.  Click this calendar icon.
  • Immediately a pop up box will appear which has a calendar.  You can navigate to the exact date you want and choose it.
  • Once you have chosen that specific date, the date will load in the blank field to the right of “Publish date”.  For example, as this tutorial is being written, I choose today’s date which reads “18-03-2008 10:32:48”.  This simply means the 18th of March, 2008 at 10:32 am.  Now save the document.
  • So let’s go back to our example above of Project A and Project B.  Even though Project A was originally posted before Project B and therefore Project B appears higher in the list of “Current Projects”, we can rearrange the order to put Project A above Project B.  To do so, simply edit Project B (simply right-click Project B in the tree diagram on the left and choose “Edit Document”).  Once this document has loaded, set the publish date to yesterday and save the document.  Now edit Project A and set it’s publish date to today and save the document.  Because we defined the publish date with Project A being published today and Project B being published yesterday, Project B will appear at the bottom of the list on the “Current Projects” page of the website with Project A appearing first in the list.
